ClimaSouth training workshop on climate downscaling and forest fire impacts

Posted on

On March 14th-16th, 2016, in the framework of the ClimaSouth project, the CMCC Foundation conducted a training workshop for the specialized staff of Algeria’s Office National de la Météorologie (ONM) on the topic of climate downscaling in preparation for studies of climate change impacts on forest fires.
The course was held in the CMCC Foundation offices in Lecce and the lead lecturer was Dr. Edoardo Bucchignani (CMCC Foundation). The event was facilitated by Dr. Giulia Galluccio (CMCC Foundation), ClimaSouth Scientific Leader e Project manager, who introduced the ClimaSouth project and the anticipated activities in Algeria on downscaling and forest fire impacts.
Material presented covered the topics of climate change, climate variability and dynamical downscaling. Many lectures and associated practical sessions covered advanced topics including implementation of the COSMO-CLM regional climate model.
The ONM has become a member of the CLM community and the model implementation is in progress at the ONM computing facility.
