Coping with climate change: from research to policies in a changing world

Posted on

Global warming is widely recognized as one of the major challenges the society – on a global scale – has to face. Most scientists agree on a strong human contribution in the ongoing changes and big changes are needed in order to reduce the impacts on the environment and on the society. Many research groups have been working for several years on these topics, obtaining relevant results. It is therefore important to transfer results of the research into practical actions, improving the communication between scientists and decision/policy makers in order to mitigate changes and adapt to a new climate.

The event “Coping with climate change: from research to policies in a changing world”, organized by the Italian embassy in Oslo and the Department of Geosciences of the University of Oslo the framework of the initiative “Under the Sign of Excellence” explores this challenging issue. After a presentation about climate trends and future scenarios, the seminar will be an opportunity to see how science results can support policy and decision makers in coping with climate change. Further, an introduction to the climate policies in China, who has recently signed the Paris agreement, will show the actions that are being taken by one of the major key player in the global changes.

Dr. D. Iovino, CMCC researcher at ODA Division, will give a speech on “Climate change in polar regions and high-latitudes: annual trends and scenarios”.
