On November 24, 2015, the final workshop of the project OFIDIA will take place in Lecce at MUST, Museo Storico Città di Lecce (Via degli Ammirati 11).
The event will involve institutional representatives, policy and decision makers, stakeholders, researchers, experts, spokespeople of the civil society whose activities are focused on fire danger forecast and prevention.

The main objective of the OFIDIA project is to build a cross-border operational fire danger prevention infrastructure that advances the ability of regional stakeholders across the Epirus and Apulia regions to detect and fight forest wildfires through more effective patrolling, environmental monitoring, weather modeling, fire danger forecasting and automated access to related historical data. With this aim a consortium was established between two research institutions, the CMCC and the University of Ioannina, along with three stakeholders: the Decentralized Administration of Epirus-Western Macedonia, Forest Directorate (DAFD), the Province of Lecce and the Metropolitan City of Bari.

The wireless sensor networks in the Apulia Region, the control rooms for the operational coordination of forest fire prevention and fighting, the joint development of integrated operational IT infrastructure for data storage, weather modeling, fire danger forecasting, visualization of historical and forecasted data on geographical maps: these are the main results of the project to be presented in Lecce.
