In order to support pilots and flight management system through an increasing awareness of the meteorological conditions during flight, CIRA (Italian Aerospace Research Centre) developed a system gathering, processing and integrating observational and forecast meteorological data from different sources (e.g. satellite, in situ measurements, numerical weather prediction models) in formats suitable for onboard transmission and tailored on pilots and flight management needs.
The results are published on the Proceedings of IEEE, International Workshop on Metrology for Aerospace (among the authors, CMCC researchers V. Rillo, M.P. Manzi and P. Mercogliano).
