FOCAL POINT IPCC for Italy
The IPCC National Focal Point can be considered a linking point between IPCC and the national scientific community as well as the public, with the aim to facilitate mutual information exchange about the relevant ongoing activities.
The IPCC is currently outlining its new Fifth Assessment Report (AR5).
The AR5 Scoping Meeting was held in Venice (Italy) from 13 to 17 July 2009, hosted by the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) and the International Center for Climate Governance (ICCG). A scoping paper was prepared describing the objectives and an annotated outline of the AR5 and its three Working Group (WGs) contributions, as well as a broad outline for the Synthesis Report.
The draft scoping paper was then circulated for comments to governments and submitted for consideration and approval to the Sessions of the WGs and the XXXI Session of the IPCC (26-29 October 2009, Bali, Indonesia).
Key documents approved at the XXXI Session of the IPCC are provided in one compiled AR5 reference document, which includes: the outlines for the three WGs contributions to the AR5, the concept notes on Cross-Cutting issues, and a list of AR5 Expert Meetings and Workshops.
On 23 June 2010 the IPCC announced the names of 831 experts from among 3000 nominations who will be part of the Author teams of the AR5.
The Report should be finalized by 2014.
