ConnectinGEO – Coordinating an Observation Network of Networks EnCompassing saTellite and IN-situ to fill the Gaps in European Observations

ConnectinGEO is a coordination and supporting action with the primary goal is to link existing coordinated Earth Observation networks with science and technology (S&T) communities, the industry sector and the GEOSS and Copernicus stakeholders. The aim is to facilitate a broader and more accessible knowledge base to support the needs of the GEO Societal Benefit Areas (SBAs) and their users.

General aims

The project has 4 major objectives:

  • Enable a European Network of Earth Observation Networks (ENEON) including space-based, airborne and in-situ observations networks.
  • Provide a methodology to convert the knowledge needs into a coherent observation and measurement compendium for ENEON strategy and development.
  • Apply the ConnectinGEO methodology to identify and assess the priority of gaps.
  • Open the results of the project and exploit them beyond the project end.

CMCC Role

Project partner responsible for the following deliverables:

  • D2.2- EVs current status in different communities and way to move forward
  • D2.3- Proposal of EVs for selected themes
  • D7.4- Strategic view for the sustainability of ENEON after the end of the project

Expected results

Report on the above mentioned deliverables, that should help in identifying Essential Variables to monitor the environment and its changes in different domains, and propose a strategy for a sustained European Network of Earth Observation Networks.

Activity

Coordination of the different communities monitoring Carbon, Health and Pollution, Ecosystems, Biodiversity, Energy, Disasters and Oceans to identify essential variables useful to monitor global change. Organization of a workshop. Preparation of a strategic report for the sustainability of ENEON.
