Valentina Mereu: researcher of the IAFES division (Impacts on Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services) of the CMCC Foundation (Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change). She holds a degree in Agricultural Science and Technology and a Ph.D. in Agrometeorology and Ecophysiology of Agricultural and Forestry Systems. Her main research areas are the development and application of modeling tools and methodologies for studying the impacts of climate change on agricultural systems and land suitability to support decisions and guide the implementation of adaptation and mitigation strategies. She participated in the development of the Italian National Adaptation Strategy (NAS) and coordinated the development of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Land and Sea Protection (MATTM) and the activities of CMCC in support of the development of the Regional Adaptation Strategy of the Sardinia Region. She coordinates the activities in support of ANCI Toscana and some Italian municipalities within the Interreg ADAPT Project. Since 2012, she has been involved in the implementation of the Climate-ADAPT platform, developed by the European Environment Agency (EEA), as the thematic expert for the agricultural sector. She is one of the lead authors of the EEA report (2019): “Climate change adaptation in the agriculture sector in Europe”. Other national and international projects in which she is/was involved as a researcher are: SEICA-NENA; SAM-PS; Terras; SUSHI; LIFE MASTER ADAPT; Medscope; SECTEUR; CARBOTREES; ORIENTGATE; CLIMAFRICA; Climed. She has been a consultant for Sardinia’s Renewable Energy Technology Cluster in the “CO2.0 – Smart city, comuni in classe A” project, to support the development of Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAP). She worked as a consultant for a World Bank funded project: Climate Risk Analysis in Nigeria. She is the co-supervisor of several degree and doctoral theses. She organized a summer school on the impacts of climate change on agriculture in the framework of CLIMAFRICA project. She is the author of several publications (articles in national and international journals, book chapters and national and international conference proceedings). She has been and is currently a member of several Scientific Societies, including the Italian Society for Climate Sciences (SISC), the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the American Meteorological Society (AMS).
