CLIPC – CLimate Information Platform for Copernicus

CLIPC will provide access to climate information of direct relevance to a wide variety of users, from scientists to policy makers and private sector decision makers. Information will include data from satellite and in-situ observations, climate datasets and transformed data products to assess indicators for climate change impact.

General aims

The main project objectives are:

  • 1. The platform: The project will create a platform for the dissemination of climate data together with documentation about and commentaries on the data.
  • 2. The toolkit: The climate impact indicator toolkit which will provide guidance on the scientific background to indicators, updated indicators for integration into climateAdapt and options for users to produce new indicators.
  • 3. Web service integration: The project will provide integrated web services across different categories of climate data.

CMCC Role

The ASC division of CMCC will contribute to Component development for CLIPC architecture in WP5.
The RAAS division will support the integration of the CLIPC products and services into the EEA ClimateAdapt portal.

Expected results

The main expected results are:

  1. A “one-stop shop” platform for climate data resources, which will allow users to find answers to their questions related to climate and climate impacts data.
  2. a climate impacts toolkit which will provide documentation on methods and data sources used to generate climate impact indicators.

Activity

The project is organised into 7 work packages (WPs). Two WPs will work on providing access to climate data through infrastructure harmonisation and data transformations, and two will work on the impacts toolkit. A further 3 WPs will ensure that the project can deliver a fully integrated portal.
