JPI – Climate CSA – Joint Programming Initiative Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe – Coordination and Support Action

The JPI Climate is an European initiative contributing to the overall EU objective of building the European Research Area through enhanced cooperation and coordination of national research programmes on Climate Change.

General aims

The overall strategic objective of the JPI Climate is to contribute to highly coordinated knowledge development funded by EU Member States by not only improving the scientific expertise on climate change risks and adaptation options, but also by connecting that knowledge with decision-making on major investments in economic and societal sectors in Europe with respect to their climate resilience and climate friendliness.


Activity

The overall activities of the JPI Climate are:

  • Identify, coordinate and integrate national climate research funding programme;
  • Put forward and provide input to climate research programmes and policies of the EU;
  • Establish a strategic collaboration with global programmes, neighbouring countries, climate policy actors at the international level;
  • Extend the partnership of the JPI Climate to other EU member states, with special focus on eastern European countries;
  • Develop an effective communication and dissemination strategy;
  • Develop a detailed implementation plan;
  • Elaborate an update of the Strategic Research Agenda;
  • Elaborate and apply concepts and mechanisms on how to best integrate activities to provide integrated climate knowledge.
