This paper analyzes the capabilities of the regional climate model COSMO-CLM to simulate the main features of the observed climate over the entire Italian domain. Two simulations on the period 1971-2000, driven by ERA40 Reanalysis and by the CMCC-MED global model respectively, have been performed at a spatial resolution of 8 km. 2meters mean temperature and daily precipitation have been analyzed comparing their values with EOBS observational dataset, along with an analysis of the total cloud cover and geopotential at 500hPa and 850hPa compared with ERA-Interim Reanalysis.
