Policy guidelines for climate adaptation

Posted on

Climate change can disrupt ecological, social and economic systems, with some regions and sectors suffering significantly. Therefore, adaptation plays a crucial role in responding to climate change. The BASE (Bottom-up Climate Adaptation Strategies towards a Sustainable Europe) project will address the need for research on sustainable climate adaptation strategies and will improve interactions between bottom – up and top – down assessments. The aim is to estimate the environmental, social and economic impacts of climate change, and the costs and benefits of adaptation from an interdisciplinary perspective.
To address these challenges BASE will:

  •  Improve adaptation knowledge availability, integration and utilization;
  • Promote and strengthen stakeholder participation in adaptation;
  • Support coherent, multi-level, multi-sector integrated adaptation policies.

As a partner of the project, CMCC will develop a top-down assessment of adaptation policies at the EU level, will analyze a case study on urban adaptation to sea-level rise and will support the linkage to the EU Adaptation Clearing House Mechanism (now termed EU Climate Adaptation Platform – CLIMATE-ADAPT).
