“Climate change and its implications on ecosystem services and society” is the title of the  SISC First Annual Conference (September 23-24, 2013 – Castle of Charles V, Lecce, Italy). The program of the Conference, is available for download at the Conference website

Climate Change and Security: the Role of the European Union
Scientific knowledge of climate change is crucial to provide rigorous information and data not only among the scientific community, but also to decision makers at national and international stage. Angela Liberatore, Deputy Head of the Unit fostering international scientific cooperation in the European Neighbourhood, Africa and the Gulf at Directorate General for Research of the European Commission will open the SISC Conference talking about the arguments that underpinned the EU policy on climate change, its effort to foster multilatreral climate protection and what it has meant for the EU to define climate change as a security issue.

Two days, one hundred papers
The scientific presentations at the first Annual SISC Conference are split into three parallel sessions: Advances in climate science, Implications on ecosystem services, Climate policy and economic assessments. Have a look to the most updated version of the program.

The media tell the climate
Journalists, experts and scientists will debate about science, climate change and public opinion.
What is the public’s perception of climate research in Italy? What do people really know about results in scientific publications? How many people are aware of the implications and advantages in everyday life due to the knowledge of the climate research community?
The scientific community will debate about how to extend their audience to a broader public sphere and will discuss with with media experts and journalist: Luca Mercalli,  Giuseppe Pellegrini, Silvia Bencivelli, Luca Carra, Marco Cattaneo, Elisabetta Tola.

Science Theatre for kids
On Tuesday morning, September 24, 2013, a stage show designed and realized to explain to a very young public the themes of natural resources and sustainability will be held in a school in Lecce.
