Elena is a PhD candidate in the joint CMCC/Ca’ Foscari University programme ‘Science and Management of Climate Change’. Her research project focuses on the application of statistical and machine learning tools to understand the temporal and spatial variability of Arctic sea ice and its interactions with the atmosphere and ocean at sub-seasonal time scales.

Prior to this, she received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of York and a Master’s degree with Distinction in Climate Change from the University of East Anglia, where she discovered her passion for remote environments while writing a thesis on sea ice dynamics in the Northwest Passage. She is also a member of the national committee of APECS Italy (Association of Polar Early Career Scientists).
