Dr. Edoardo Bucchignani received the Eng. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Roma “La Sapienza” in 1992 and got a PhD in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in 1997 at the same Institution.
Since 1994 he is research scientist at the Italian Aerospace Research Center (CIRA), and currently he is the Head of Meteorology Lab. Since 2008 he is also research scientist at CMCC Foundation (Team leader of Regional Models research unit).
He has experience in computational fluid dynamics, theory of dissipative nonlinear systems and chaos, implementation of fast algorithms for CFD on supercomputers. His current research activities are related to the study and applications of regional climate models for the development of long-term projections, and to the study of limited area Numerical Weather Prediction models.
He is member of the European consortium COSMO (Consortium for Small-scale Modelling), for the development of the operational meteorological model COSMO LM and of the CLM Community for the development of the COSMO-CLM model.
He participated in several European projects (e.g. FP7 INTACT, FP7 CLUVA, FP7 PERSEUS, FP7 SAFELAND, SESAR PJ02) and is currently involved in many national and international research projects concerning meteorology, climate change and impact of impact change, evaluation of severe weather events (e.g. H2020 OPERANDUM, H2020 SESAR CREATE, H2020 GREAT).
He is author of more than 50 scientific papers on referenced international journals on these topics and Guest Editor of a special issue of the Journal Atmosphere.
