EOatSEE – SEA LEVEL AND COASTAL HAZARDS

The project aims to an advanced reconstruction of the relevant processes included in extreme sea level events and its related coastal hazards, by taking advantage of the novel capabilities and synergies offered by the latest advances in eo technology. The solid scientific knowledge shall enhance the fundamental scientific understanding and predictive capacity of such events, as well as the potential to better assess the related risk and the vulnerability of coastal zones

General aims

General objectives:
A. To improve our fundamental scientific understanding of the drivers of extreme sea level events and related coastal hazards across different spatial and temporal scales
B. To enhance capacity to predict extreme sea level events and related coastal hazards in the short term and in the long term while better assessing the risk and the vulnerability of coastal areas to these events

Activities
We shall develop and validate a novel set of EO-based products, together with additional information (in-situ data, model results), to provide an advanced data driven dynamic reconstruction of the relevant processes in the test regions under investigation.
We shall study a number of use cases to demonstrate our capacity to predict extreme sea level events and related coastal hazards
In addition, a community scientific roadmap should be developed aimed at transferring the outcomes of the Project into future scientific activities

Expected results
To enhance the fundamental scientific understanding and predictive capacity of hydro-climatic induced extreme sea level events and related coastal hazards
To better assess the related risk and the vulnerability of coastal zones to such events.
To evaluate the added value of EO-products on the high-resolution downscaling modelling tools, in support of knowledge-based decision making in several use cases applications
