Croatia will be the 31st member of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme

Posted on

Croatian citizens voted to join the EU by a sweeping majority. Thus, joining the European Union from 2013, the Balkan State will also become part of the biggest carbon market in the world along with the 27 EU members, Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway. To this purpose the government already selected 73 installations that will be covered by the EU scheme on its third phase. The Croatian companies will be required to surrender allowances (EUAs) in line with their emissions by April 2014.

More detailed information in the latest issue of Climate Policy News by Marinella Davide who informs us about California where an ambitious green cars program was approved, and about China where a pilot provincial emission trading system could soon be launched, eventually paving the way for a national GHG emissions scheme in the country.
