Can climate change impact intangible cultural heritage? The CMCC Foundation is hosting an immersive workshop exploring the impact of climate change on cultural traditions, practices, and expressions. As part of the GreenHeritage Project, this event brings together experts and participants to discuss strategies for protecting cultural heritage against a rapidly changing world.

Within the Framework of the GreenHeritage Project, the CMCC Foundation is organizing a three-day immersive workshop at its Headquarters in Lecce, Italy, from December 10 to 12, 2024. The Italian Workshop is part of a set of transnational workshops taking place in the countries involved in the Project, namely Latvia, Italy, Greece and Spain.

The workshop will offer an exciting opportunity to dive deep into a topic that is both timely and under-explored: the direct and indirect effects of climate change on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). By combining theoretical insights with hands-on approaches, the workshops will provide a unique platform for participants to explore how climate change is impacting traditions, practices, and expressions that are vital to our cultural identity.

This three-day workshop is part of the peculiar Blended-Learning Program adopted by the Project, which aims at implementing a hybrid educational model that combines top-tier digital resources with a comprehensive learning experience. It is designed not only for professionals and practitioners in the cultural heritage field, but also for students and the wider public.

It is thought to be delivered to students over 18 years old, researchers, PhD candidates, ICH practitioners and professionals, policymakers, journalists, environment actors and civil societies. This modern, innovative, and versatile training tool provides a sustainable means of enhancing professional skills while simultaneously broadening its reach to engage a wider audience than traditional approaches typically achieve.

The workshop is coupled with 4 MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) available on the E-Learning project platform. The completion of the 4 online Modules will lead to an allocation of 4 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System), whereas the in-person attendance to the 3 days of workshop will provide participants with an extra 1 ECTS. Since the workshop is complementary to the modules, having completed the online course is recommended although not mandatory.

The CMCC Foundation might consider the possibility of covering participants’ accommodation expenses upon request.

Do not miss this chance to be part of such a thought-provoking discussion and to contribute to safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in the face of climate change!

To participate in the workshop, which will be held in Italian, please fill in this form: registration is open until December 3rd.
