COP30
20 November 2025, h. 3:00 PM (local time in Belém) | Belém, Brasil – Spanish Pavilion

“Truth matters: From rumor to resilience by preventing misinformation in climate change response” is a conference dedicated to explore how disinformation—false information spread deliberately—and misinformation – incorrect information shared without harmful intent – can significantly hinder efforts in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, making it harder for communities and decision-makers to respond effectively to environmental challenges.

With a focus on clear and accurate communication during Rapid Environmental Impact Assessments (REIA), where timely and reliable information is essential, participants will engage in a workshop centered on a realistic disaster risk scenario, with expert input tailored to the location of the current COP event.

They will identify the challenges posed by misinformation in crisis situations and work together to define effective communication strategies, using methodologies and tools developed through the Adaptation AGORA Horizon Europe project.

Marina Mattera, CMCC Project Manager of Adaptation AGORA project will moderate the session and be one of the keynote speakers.

The goal is to establish key agreements among partners and stakeholders, ensuring that everyone is aligned in preventing the spread of misinformation and outlined best practices for managing misinformation and enhancing disaster risk management in the context of climate change.

This event is one of the several CMCC contributions to COP 30, the 30th edition of the Conference of the Parties (COP) organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

COP 30 is a major United Nations climate conference that brings together world leaders, non-governmental organizations, and experts to negotiate and advance global actions to address climate change.  The conference will focus on implementing international climate agreements and promoting sustainable development through priority actions to tackle the climate crisis.
