CMCC Seminar “Towards sustainable food systems – the European approach”

Presenter: Eric Ponthieu, Head of Unit, Section for Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment – European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)

Introduced by: Francesco Bosello, Director of the ECIP Division, Fondazione CMCC – Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici

Abstract:
Aiming at sustainable food systems cannot be limited to reduce the environmental impacts of food production. An integrated and wide-ranging approach, addressing both food production and consumption, must be designed and implemented with policy measures such as: sustainable agriculture, balanced territorial development, promotion of short food supply chains and alternative food systems, healthy diets, better education and training on food and nutrition, fairer trade relations and distribution across the food supply chains, etc. The EU is currently debating the relevance of setting a comprehensive food policy to enhance global value throughout the food supply chain.

The seminar will be held in CMCC in Venice, Aula Template.

Attendance is restricted to invited speakers and auditors.
