Ivan Federico is a Scientist at the Euro Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) where he leads the “Global Coastal Ocean” (GOCO) Division.

He holds a Ph.D. in Hydraulics Engineering for the Environment and Territory in 2011, focused on Computational Fluid Dynamics.
Since 2012 he has been employed at CMCC, where he has led the development and implementation of very high-resolution hydrodynamic and wave models in operational forecasting mode, from large-scale to shelf, coastal and urban ocean.

His research is oriented to Coastal Oceanography and coastal hazards (e.g., storm surge, flooding, coastal erosion), with specific focus on: Limited-area multi-physics coastal-ocean modeling for nearshore applications; Coastal Digital Twins of the Ocean (cDTO); Advancements in seamless Global Coastal Ocean representation using unstructured grids; Artificial Intelligence for coastal processes; Coastal-Ocean Operational Forecasting Systems.
