AdriaClimPlus Summer School
20-25 July 2025 | CMCC Headquarters, Lecce
More information
The Introductive Summer School on Climate Change in the Adriatic Sea, taking place at the CMCC headquarters from July 20 to 25 and co-organized by the CMCC Foundation and the University of Bologna within the framework of the AdriaClimPlus project, will provide students with a science-based overview of the current and projected climate conditions in the Adriatic region.
This edition is the first of two Summer Schools organized within the project—one in Italy and one in Croatia—and it targets postgraduate and PhD students from both countries. The aim is to inform and train participants on existing climate monitoring systems and projections relevant to the Adriatic Sea and its coastal zones.
The Summer School will explore the reasons why climate change is a critical issue in the region, highlighting its impacts on society and the environment. Participants will gain a clear understanding of climate-induced hazards and the observational evidence supporting their identification. A broad overview of how climate science works will be provided, introducing participants to key concepts and approaches in the field.
The program will also explain the role and relevance of major international scientific efforts, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways and Representative Concentration Pathways (SSP-RCP) scenarios, the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP), as well as initiatives like CLIVAR and FLAME.
In addition, the School will present the main results of global climate projections, emphasizing trends, variability, and long-term changes. A key focus will be on ocean observations and their importance for climate monitoring, especially in the Adriatic region.
