COP30
15 November 2025 | h. 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM (local time in Belém) | Belém, Brasil – Italian Pavilion

The Entangled Destiny initiative – supported by the National Geographic Society and the European Forest Institute Mediterranean Facility (EFIMED) – takes part in COP30 in Belém, Brazil, bringing Mediterranean perspectives on biocultural heritage, climate resilience, and traditional ecological knowledge to the global stage.

The side event “Entangled Destiny: Trees and Humans of the Mediterranean” invites participants to reflect on the deep-rooted relationships between Mediterranean communities and three iconic tree species: the olive, carob, and stone pine.

Through an interactive experience followed by a panel discussion, with the participation of CMCC Principal Scientific Manager Giulia Galluccio, the session explores how cultural heritage and traditional knowledge can inspire nature-based climate solutions, sustainable land management, and community resilience.

All side event panelists:
Magda Bou Dagher Kharrat, European Forest Institute – Mediterranean Facility
Grammenos Mastrojeni, Union for the Mediterranean
Saulo Jennings, UN World Tourism Ambassador
Marinella Giannelli, International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies – Bari Institute
Giulia Galluccio, CMCC Foundation

Throughout the whole COP 30, Entangled Destiny will also feature in the Mediterranean Pavilion (Blue Zone), supported by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), offering participants immersive experiences with VR landscapes, tastings of products derived from olive, carob, and stone pine, and storytelling moments showcasing Mediterranean cultural and natural diversity.
