A new collaboration to investigate and model our climate system and its interactions with society and the environment. Politecnico participation will be aimed at developing scenarios, models and increasingly accurate analyses in many of the different fields of climate science while representing an important step forward to produce scientific knowledge and “guarantee reliable, rigorous, and timely scientific results to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment, and to develop science driven adaptation and mitigation policies in a changing climate”.

The Italian research on climate change strengthens by virtue of a new, distinguished, renowned collaboration: Politecnico di Milano joins CMCC Foundation as co-founder.
This collaboration opens new perspectives and opportunities to investigate and model our climate system and its interactions with society and the environment.

Politecnico participation will be aimed at developing scenarios, models and increasingly accurate analyses in many of the different fields of climate science research. Water resources management, environmental risks assessment, technology transfer for low carbon societies and emissions reduction measures and strategies, energy systems and energy efficiency solutions, big data and the Internet of Things: these will be the main topics to be addressed by Politecnico in the framework of the CMCC research network.

The complex, compelling and ambitious climate challenge requires to be developed at different geographic scales, that is a commitment at global, regional and local level while demanding an effort to promote dialogue from the scientific community in order to go beyond the traditional barriers between disciplines and research institutions.

The CMCC Foundation was established with this mission and all its activities are oriented  towards this purpose; Politecnico participation represents an important step forward to produce scientific knowledge and “guarantee reliable, rigorous, and timely scientific results to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment, and to develop science driven adaptation and mitigation policies in a changing climate”.

Politecnico joins the other CMCC co-founders, such as National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), University of Salento, Italian Aerospace Research Center (CIRA), Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, University of Tuscia, University of Sassari and implement a multidisciplinary collaboration that is essential to address topics related to climate change  science and research. Therefore CMCC Foundation represents a network of Italian research centers and institution of excellence focused on the integrated study of climate change related topics while playing an increasingly prominent role in international climate research.

” The entry of Politecnico di Milano among CMCC co-founders – Antonio Navarra, CMCC Foundation President, comments – represents an important step for the Center: it’s a certificate of the quality of its work; moreover, Politecnico participation will strengthen our research activities in new fields while increasing the international competitiveness of the CMCC Foundation.”

“Politecnico di Milano – Dean and Prof. Giovanni Azzone states – accounts global climate change as one of the most important issues that society has to face. Politecnico research moves in this direction since long time, and the adhesion to CMCC represents a key opportunity to unify efforts. Seven department of Politecnico join and are directly involved. Politecnico task will be also aimed at providing technology transfer of innovative solutions to develop science driven adaptation and mitigation policies in a changing climate”.
