Impacts of climate change on the Venetian Lagoon

Posted on

The unprecedented warming of the climate is likely to lead to rapid sea level rise. This accelerated sea level rise, further aggravated by an increase in the frequency of extreme weather events, damages coastal ecosystems and the regional socio-economic systems that depend on them.
The International Centre for Climate Governance organizes a webinar on the impact of climate change in the Venetian Lagoon to be held on February 6th, 2015 (h. 12:00 pm). More in detail, the webinar will explore how coastal wetlands act as efficient barriers to waves and erosion as well as their contribution to mitigating climate change by sequestering large quantities of atmospheric carbon dioxide and storing it in the soil (blue carbon).
