The JUNO+ project of the CMCC Foundation – Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change is one of the regional research infrastructures projects included in the National Research Infrastructure Plan 2021-2027 (PNIR) and funded under the Puglia Regional Programme FESR-FSE+ 2021-2027, Action 1.6 “Qualification of research infrastructures within the regional system”.

During a press conference at the Regional Presidency in Bari on the morning of 9 March 2026, the regulations for the projects and their respective funding dedicated to enhancing six strategic infrastructures for the Puglian scientific and productive system were signed, in line with the regional smart specialisation strategy SmartPuglia2030 and national research priorities.

Among the funded projects, JUNO+ will improve the IT infrastructure of the supercomputer dedicated to climate research, enhancing the management of large data volumes and the utilisation of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies for increasingly accurate climate simulations.

This project marks the beginning of a new phase in upgrading the CMCC High Performance Computing Centre, Italy’s largest computing infrastructure – and one of the most advanced in Europe – dedicated exclusively to climate change research and its interactions with society, economic systems, and environmental systems.
