Technology, innovation, and collaboration are at the heart of efforts to prevent and combat forest fires, ensuring a safer and more sustainable future. The SILVANUS project focuses on empowering local residents, civil society organizations, and policymakers with tools and strategies for effective wildfire management. Discover the latest developments in wildfire resilience, community engagement, and cutting-edge technology in the newest issue of the SILVANUS newsletter.

SILVANUS, a Horizon 2020 Green Deal project, is dedicated to combating wildfires through advanced technologies, sustainable forest management, and enhanced public awareness. Named after the Roman deity of the woods, SILVANUS aims to establish a climate-resilient wildfire risk management platform to prevent and mitigate wildfires while supporting the restoration of burnt areas.

The project brings together experts in environmental, technical, and social sciences from 18 countries across four continents. These specialists work collaboratively to assist regional and national authorities in managing wildfires more effectively. By monitoring forest resources, evaluating biodiversity, generating precise fire risk indicators, and promoting safety through awareness campaigns, SILVANUS safeguards both forests and communities from the increasing threat of wildfires.

The latest SILVANUS newsletter showcases the project’s progress and recent activities. It highlights the reports from pilot exercises conducted in autumn 2024 in Romania, Italy, France, Portugal, Slovakia, Croatia, and Greece, which tested and refined tools and methodologies for wildfire prevention and response. The newsletter also covers the presentation of the SILVANUS platform to the External Advisory Board in Warsaw, Poland, where its innovative capabilities received valuable feedback from leading experts.

In addition to technical advancements, the project continues to strengthen community involvement through the launch of the Citizen Engagement App, which empowers individuals to participate actively in wildfire risk reduction, and the introduction of the Citizen Engagement Course, designed to enhance local awareness and collaboration and available on Silvanus website. Recent months have also been marked by impactful dissemination events, demonstrating the project’s dedication to knowledge sharing and stakeholder engagement.

Stay connected with SILVANUS as it continues to lead the charge for a wildfire-resilient future. Read the full newsletter to explore how the project is transforming wildfire management and promoting sustainable forest practices.
