The CMCC Scientific Computing and Operations Division & the Engineering Dept. of the University of Salento have recently won the “2011 Unidata Community Equipment Awards” grant sponsored by the US National Science Foundation.
The primary purpose of the Unidata Community Equipment Awards is to encourage new members from diverse disciplinary backgrounds in the geosciences to join the Unidata community, and for existing members to continue their active participation so as to enhance the community process. During the 2011 Equipment Awards, consideration was given to proposals outlining plans to install either/both THREDDS Data Server and RAMADDA to share data relevant to furthering Unidata’s mission with the community at-large. This included but was not limited to data from real-time IDD/LDM feeds, local observations, data from local modeling efforts, case study collections, and climate data.
The proposal relates to the “Establishment of a Multiplexed Thredds Installation and a Ramadda Collaboration Environment for Community Access to Climate Change Data”.
The grant will be used to purchase a powerful IBM server machine hosting both a multiplexed THREDDS installation and a RAMADDA collaboration environment for Climate Change. The infrastructure will be set up during the summer and will be located at the CMCC Supercomputing Centre.
CMCC and the University of Salento are the first European institutions winning this grant.
