Posted on

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests (IDF) in 2012. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests. On each International Day of Forests, countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns. The theme for 2019 is Forests and Education.

The CMCC Foundation, in collaboration with EFI – European Forest Institute, will celebrate the International Day of Forests with a webinar taking stocks of the existing know-how, research activities and policies implementing sustainable forest management to support the role of forest to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Among the presenters, Marco Marchetti, University of Molise, Hans Verkerk, European Forest Institute and Donatella Spano, University of Sassari and CMCC Foundation (moderator: CMCC researcher Valentina Bacciu, IAFES Division). Prof. Spano will give a speech focused on forest fire management as a strategy to cope with climate change. More information here.
