Best Practices to address climate change: local initiatives

The International Center for Climate Governance (ICCG)  is pleased to announce the seminar on Best Practices to address climate change: local initiatives”, to be held on April 16th, 2013, in Venice, Italy.

In 2009, the European Commission presented a White Paper on adaptation to climate change, which states that “even if we are able to limit and reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the global level, it will take time before the planet is able to dispose of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which means that we will have to cope with the impacts of climate change for at least the next 50 years. It is therefore necessary to take measures to adapt.” To date, however, there are still not enough commitments in the context of mitigation and adaptation to the inevitable changes in progress.
The role of politics, institutions, businesses, the research community, and citizens themselves can be crucial in the fight against climate change. For example, these groups can play a key role in orienting the current policies within strategic sectors such as transport, energy and land use planning. They can also carry out the role of key actors for local companies involved in activities, which reduce emissions.
Following a brief introduction by Valeria Barbi, a researcher and policy analyst at the International Center for Climate Governance, Piero Pelizzaro, head of international cooperation KyotoClub, will talk about mitigation and adaptation to climate change, describing the two initiatives, which due to their efficiency and innovation, are attracting the attention of the media and international administrations. Gianni Gaggiani, freelance graphic designer and founder of Grow the Planet, will then discuss an innovative social network that assists users and follows them step by step in creating their own home garden.
