Online Training on Data Analytics

Online training
March 8-9 2021 – h. 03:00 pm CET

Registration is open

Organised jointly by the H2020 projects IS-ENES3 and EOSC-Hub, this online training event is open to everyone interested in processing multidimensional data, mainly targeting Earth System scientists and data scientists.

Join our online training and find out how to exploit ECAS (the ENES Climate Analytics Service) to load, filter, concatenate, perform spatial and time averages, plot CMIP data for multi-model comparisons and use CMIP models to calculate climate indices for any location and period.

No package installation required, you just need a web browser to use the server-side near-data compute service.

Key topics:

  • Challenges and technical issues in scientific data management and analytics
  • Multidimensional (big) data analysis
  • Basic open source tools for data science in the field of climate sciences (e.g., Ophidia, Xarray, Intake, Jupyter Notebook, …)

Event agenda:

March 8

General introduction (3:00 pm – 5:00 pm)

March 9

DKRZ demos and hands-on session (10:00 am – 12:30 am)

CMCC demos and hands-on session (3:00 pm – 5:30 pm)

CMCC demos and hands-on session (3:00 pm – 5:30 pm)
This session consists of two main parts. First, an introductory demonstration of some relevant capabilities will be given, including a walkthrough of the functionalities offered by the ENES Climate Analytics Service (ECAS) hosted at CMCC, ranging from the Jupyter Notebook environment to data analytics features. Specifically, participants will be given practical examples in Python (e.g., based on PyOphidia, Cartopy, etc.) in the context of real-world data analytics use cases applied to climate data. During the hands-on session, participants will be provided with notebooks about climate-oriented analysis and they shall test themselves and make use of the features explained in the first part of the session.
