More information

Organized within the framework of the The HuT project, for which Fondazione CMCC acts as Deputy Coordinator, FESTAS is an art and science festival entitled NEXUS, taking place from 22 to 26 June 2026 in the historic centre of Naples.

FESTAS 2026 – NEXUS explores connections, relationships, and intersections: between art and science; sensory and cognitive experience; emotion and knowledge; people, disciplines, and environments; and across time and space. Guided by five key themes — Nature, Environment, XXI Century, hUmanity, and Society — the festival offers an open and multidisciplinary reflection on complexity, moving beyond predefined narratives and linear interpretations.

The first edition of FESTAS will coincide with the final assembly of the European project The HuT – The Human-Tech Nexus.

The forty-eight-month project is exploring the relationship between governance, human behavior, and technology in managing weather-induced risks, amidst a growing climate emergency. FESTAS aims to evolve, in festival form, activities at the intersection of science and art that have already developed within The HuT project.

Photo Contest

The FESTAS 2026 – Climate Extremes International Photo Contest is part of the first edition of FESTAS.

Within this framework, the Climate Extremes International Photo Contest invites photographers to visually investigate the interdependencies between human activities, environmental systems, and climate-related risks, addressing extreme climate phenomena both as scientific realities and lived human experiences.

Submitted works are expected to explore the impacts and manifestations of climate change, including extreme weather events, environmental transformations, social vulnerability and resilience, human–nature relationships, and the cultural, emotional, and political dimensions of climate emergencies. Photographs may adopt documentary, conceptual, or artistic approaches, provided they remain rooted in real contexts and experiences.
