Joint efforts to increase water management adaptation to climate changes in Central Europe
Climate change consequences are already visible in central Europe, and call for better risk management coordination. TEACHER-CE addresses this need by integrating and harmonizing results of previously funded INTERREG, Horizon2020, and Life projects into the TEACHER-CE Toolbox. This tool will focus on climate-proof management of water related issues such as floods, heavy rain and drought risk prevention, small water retention measures and protection of water resources through sustainable land-use management. The direct local and regional implementation will help municipalities and regions in adapting their processes to the changing climate conditions.

Excursion h. 09:00 – 16:00
Höllental and Kaiserbrunn, Water Protection Zone of the City of Vienna
The Excursion of the TEACHER-CE Final Conference will take place in the Höllental valley, where the Kaiserbrunn spring is located. This tapped karstic spring is one of the most important ones out of many springs which are contributing their waters to the First Water Main of the drinking water supply system of the City of Vienna. Driving through the Höllental, we will arrive at Kaiserbrunn, where we will visit the wellspring house of this huge karstic spring. At the same location we will also visit the “Water Main Museum Kaiserbrunn”. A guided tour by specialists of Vienna Water will introduce us to the overall concept and basic data of the drinking water supply system of the City of Vienna. Beside the history of this system, also current science-related knowledge about the karstic water protection zone and the water main system will be highlighted. As second focus point of the excursion day, the water protection forest ecosystems of this region will be shown and explained. The route of the related excursion is weather-dependent, as we will be there in the high winter season. Specialists of the Forest Department of the City of Vienna will guide this part of the excursion, explaining the overall purpose of forestry with the focus on drinking water protection. Beside special Best Practices applied since decades in these forests owned by the City of Vienna, also the aspects of the regional karstic forest ecosystems will be communicated.
Throughout the whole excursion, the participants will have the chance to place questions and discuss with the specialists of Vienna Water and the Forest Department of the City of Vienna. We are looking forward to seeing you all at this excursion.
