Water, energy, food, and ecosystems (WEFE) are interconnected in a complex system (“WEFE nexus”) dominated by continuous interactions and modulated by climatic and socio-economic drivers. To effectively manage resources and avoid conflicts between users, many relevant policies must be intelligently designed to address nexus interconnectedness at many spatial scales. The Horizon2020 project NEXOGENESIS (“Facilitating the next generation of effective and intelligent water-related policies utilising artificial intelligence and reinforcement learning to assess the water-energy-food-ecosystem (WEFE) nexus”) is aimed at:
- improving the understanding of the interconnections between sectors in the WEFE Nexus-Reduction of uncertainties about how new policies and stakeholder behavior may affect the Nexus through the Self-Learning Nexus Assessment Engine (SLNAE);
- increasing the awareness and shared vision of the problems and solutions in the WEFE Nexus;
- creating greater awareness and shared vision of WEFE Nexus issues and solutions; iv) creating network and discussion among the different stakeholders in the Nexus, for constructive dialogue, conflict resolution, informed and shared decisions.
The first workshop of the Adige River basin case study, will be held, in Italian, online on 4th May 2022 to present the project, gather participants’ interests and questions, and encourage group brainstorming regarding the interconnections, conflicts, and policies that govern the various sectors of the Nexus. The workshop is addressed at public and private entities dealing with the water, energy, food and ecosystems sectors of the Nexus in the Adige River Basin, from both a strategic and technical perspective.
The event will be held in Italian
