Climate change is a global crisis that demands a global response, but it is clear that regions in the Global South will face its most severe impacts. How can the world community ensure that scientists from the regions that will bear the brunt are included in assessing the crisis and shaping the world’s response? To help address this challenge, The World Academy of Science (TWAS) brings together 45 scientists from 36 developing countries and 15 highly accomplished climate experts from IPCC in Trieste, Italy, on 14–16 May, for the TWAS-IPCC Workshop on Joint climate science network, mentorship and capacity growth.
The CMCC – Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change takes part in the workshop with the contribution of Anna Pirani, CMCC researcher and alternate focal point for Italy to the IPCC, helping participants discuss how the IPCC operates and how to share scientific findings with policymakers and global audiences.
The workshop objective is to provide scientists from developing countries with the tools to be heard by international organizations, influence international priorities, and minimize the harm to their countries. The initiative was made possible through essential support from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
