General aims
The SPLASH Project will establish a framework for long term communication, collaboration and coordination of member state research programmes related to water issues in developing countries. It will establish EU leadership in the OECD-DAC coordinated process to increase harmonisation and alignment of donor actions with developing country partners. SPLASH underpins the delivery of commitments made at the Johannesburg WSSD and in particular the research coordination outlined in the EU Water Initiative. Because water strongly affects so many development issues (health, industrial growth, agriculture, natural disasters, energy, gender, governance, etc) SPLASH is expected to encourage ERA-NET actions on other development issues.
SPLASH will bring together key research administrators in a programme to map out, and build consensus on priorities for common interest for knowledge sharing, and programme coordination. An SSA instrument has been used to build consensus, and a shared vision of what may practically be achieved while respecting national interests and resources.
Contribute to real improvements in the living conditions for the worlds poor SPLASH will work with other ERA-NET’s in related fields. SPLASH is one building block in the process of further integration focusing upon of research on infrastructure (water, energy, transport) in international development. The EUWI-ERA-NET is also an important component in the Implementation Plan of the Water Supply and Sanitation Technology Platfo rm (WSSTP), and in particular in working with industry towards delivery of the MDG’s.
CMCC Role
The Climate Impacts and Policies. An Economic Assessment (CIP) division of the CMCC is responsible for leading the workpackage on information review and analysis (WP2) and plays also an active role in WP6 along with the other Italian Partner IMET.
Expected results
The work carried on by CMCC has been used to prepare the Searchable online database of existing partner funded programmes.
The other results produced so far by the whole Consortium are available on the page dedicated to outptuts.
A final Synthesis Report on the work carried on by supporting and governement agencies at Member’s states and EU level will be produced.
Activity
CMCC undertakes the information collection, synthesis and communications of WP2. In details, it will also complete the common basic knowledge existing on the work carried on by supporting and governement agencies in Member’s states to seek the linkages of these policies to the European related policies.
