PHOTOGRAPHY | The power of images to communicate climate change

A critically acclaimed, award-winning photojournalist, filmmaker, public speaker, and educator joins in dialogue with an outstanding science and data journalist.

Ed Kashi has been at the forefront of new approaches to visual storytelling for 40 years, documenting many of the social and geopolitical issues that define our times. His work has contributed to the success of @EverydayClimateChange.

Elisabetta Tola is a science communication expert, lecturer, and trainer who promotes a scientific approach to journalism.

Through images and journalism, the public embarks on a journey around the world and an open dialogue on how climate change is changing lives and how photography as a medium can improve and innovate climate change communication and contribute to the climate transition.

OCEAN | Stories of humans and climate change

The ocean tells stories of climate change. Journalism brings them to the world.

Kenneth R. Weiss is a Pulitzer Prize winner for Explanatory Reporting with his work on Altered Oceans, a five-part series – published in the Los Angeles Times – about the unfolding crisis in the world’s oceans. As a writer and journalist, he focuses on science, the environment and public health.

On World Ocean Day 2021, he will join a live-streaming and interactive dialogue session moderated by the renowned journalist Veronica Fernandes.

The event will “immerse” the audience in the deep intricacies of the ocean, revealing how climate change and pollution are affecting it and people’s lives, and showing how stories grounded in scientific evidence can be made accessible to the public at large through journalism and writing.

ZERO CARBON | The New Climate War

“A perfect storm of climate opportunity”. From renewable energy and advances in technology to an active financial sector and carbon pricing.

Michael E. Mann, one of the world’s most influential climate scientists and author of the book The New Climate War: The Fight to Take Back Our Planet, will reveal how to face the “coalition of the unwilling” made up of fossil fuel interests, climate change deniers, conservative media tycoons and petrostate actors.

He will be dialoguing with the brilliant journalist Marina Lalovic about the current inadequacies and best responses to climate change, highlighting the importance of listening to science when facing climate risks.
