The PRISMA project, coordinated by CMCC and funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, is hosting a Summer School for young international scholars, advanced PhD students, and early postdocs.

As climate impacts and equity become more central in policy discussions, there is a growing need for researchers to understand how integrated assessment models can capture and address these issues. To support this, the PRISMA project, supported by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 101081604, is hosting a Summer School for young international scholars, advanced PhD students, and early postdocs. The program will feature approximately nine lectures from experts in the field, hands-on sessions with integrated assessment models (IAMs) and data analysis, and group work in the afternoons focused on model development and analysis. The summer school is organized by Mathijs Harmsen, PBL.

Target audience

Advanced doctoral students (e.g., from the 2nd year onwards) and early-career scientists (e.g., early post-docs) from universities, research institutes, or other organizations (such as private companies, government agencies, and NGOs) whose research focuses on using computational methods to study environmental and climate related issues (for instance, energy system models, climate models, ecological models, macroeconomic models).

Applicants should be proficient in at least one of the following programming languages (or similar): Python, Julia, R, or Matlab.

Aim of the course

The objective of the summer school is to create a community of young scholars from a broad range of disciplines (climate, ecology, economy, energy, political science) actively working on modelling human activities and the earth system in an integrated framework commonly referred to as Integrated Assessment Modeling.
