CMCC is participating in the 30th Annual Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE 2025), which will take place from June 16 to 19, 2025, at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) in Bergen, Norway. The EAERE Secretariat is managed by the CMCC Foundation.

The EAERE Annual Conference is an invaluable opportunity for meeting, exchanging and debating current topics in environmental and resource economics. The Conference will see CMCC researchers play an active role in discussions on environmental and resource economics, presenting their research, organizing sessions, and leading workshops on a variety of key issues including climate and resource management.

From circular economy, to resource efficiency, and policy frameworks for sustainability, the proceedings will help encourage dialogue between science, policy, and business, with CMCC researchers aiming to further contribute to informed decision-making and highlighting the importance of research in guiding climate action and sustainable development.

CMCC at EAERE 2025

At EAERE 2025, CMCC researchers will be involved in a range of activities that reflect their commitment to advancing environmental and resource economics. Eugénie Joltreau will chair a Science-Policy-Business session focused on rebound effects from circular economy practices. This session will explore how efforts to improve resource efficiency can sometimes lead to unintended increases in resource use, and will discuss which policies might help address these challenges. By examining both the drivers and possible solutions, CMCC researchers aim to support better policy design and foster a more informed public debate.

CMCC’s involvement also extends to a workshop on European Research Council (ERC) grants, where researchers such as Francesco Lamperti, Enrica De Cian, and Emanuele Campiglio will share their experiences with ERC-funded projects. They will discuss the impact of their research and provide practical advice for early-career researchers interested in pursuing similar opportunities. This kind of engagement helps strengthen the research community and encourages new ideas and collaborations.

In a thematic session, CMCC researchers will also present work on policy frameworks for advancing a sustainable circular economy. Their studies will look at how different market mechanisms and policy mixes can help promote circularity across environmental challenges. This is important for understanding how policies can be designed to work effectively in real-world situations, not just in theory.

Throughout the conference, CMCC researchers will also present several papers, sharing their latest findings with the broader academic community. These presentations provide an opportunity for feedback and discussion, which is essential for the progress of research and for building connections across the field.

Finally, the recognition of Filippo Pavanello, a CMCC-affiliated researcher, who will receive the EAERE Award for Best Doctoral Dissertations in Environmental and Resource Economics, highlights the quality and impact of the research being conducted at CMCC.

All these activities are important because they help bridge the gap between research and policy, ensuring that decisions about climate and resource management are based on solid evidence. By sharing their work and leading discussions at the conference, CMCC researchers contribute to the development of effective solutions to environmental challenges and support the growth of the next generation of researchers in the field.
