A climate agenda for Nigeria

Posted on

Riccardo Valentini and Monia Santini from IAFENT Division collaborated with Raffaello Cervigni (the World Bank) as Editors on the book “Toward Climate-Resilient Development in Nigeria” .
The work described in the book was possible thanks to the collaboration, over the last couple of years, between the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria to undertake analytical work on Nigeria’s climate change agenda.
Such partnership led to the implementation of the project Nigeria – Climate Risk Analysis, which involved a team of CMCC scientists from different divisions (IAFENT, ISC, CIP, SERC) and local consultants, working together during 2011 and 2012. CMCC and the World Bank experts examined several challenges Nigeria is called to face from potential climate change effects in key sectors as agriculture, water resources and economy, highlighting, for instance, the importance of integrating climate projections into planning.

The publication was launched in Abuja (Nigeria) on June 10th, 2013, at an event co-convened by Federal Government of Nigeria and the World Bank.”
