CMCC joins the European Commission’s Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform
CMCC has joined the Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform, established by the European Commission to bring together expertise and perspectives from across Europe in support of the implementation of the EU Water Resilience Strategy.
The Platform provides a forum for dialogue and expert advice on the key priorities identified in the Strategy: protecting and restoring the water cycle, building a water-smart economy, and ensuring access to clean and affordable water. The Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform is one of the flagship initiatives of the Strategy: in this context, CMCC has also contributed to the discussion on the EU’s water resilience research and innovation agenda through its CMCC Views on the Water Resilience R&I Strategy.
CMCC is among the 50+ organisations selected to join the Platform, following a competitive selection process. The research and scientific community is represented by just eight organisations, highlighting the strong competitiveness of the selection process for the research and academic sector. With CMCC and CNR, Italy is represented by just two research institutions among the Platform’s members.
“Water resilience truly needs climate science to be turned into operational solutions,” says Guido Rianna, CMCC scientist and representative in the Initiative. “Through the Platform, CMCC will bring this expertise to advance on relevant topics like sponge facilities or boost efforts towards water resilience across the built environment.”
As a member of the Platform, CMCC will contribute its expertise in climate science, water management and climate risk to the exchange between science, policy and stakeholders, supporting efforts towards a more water-resilient Europe over the next five years.
The Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform was officially launched in Brussels, during an event bringing together its members and stakeholders to begin its work. The launch was followed by the inauguration of the European Water Academy, the European Commission’s initiative to strengthen knowledge-sharing and capacity building on water-related issues.
