Create and promote an interdisciplinary platform for discussion and scientific exchange in order to foster research and innovation, key elements to face the climate challenge: those are some of the objectives of the Italian Society for Climate Sciences (SISC).
The Italian Society for Climate Sciences will promote and organize workshops, conferences, debates, training programs and other initiatives for the scientific community, but also for the decision makers and civil society. Just launched, the SISC is already at work in organizing its First Annual Conference, entitled “Climate change and its implications on ecosystem services and society”. The conference will take place in Lecce, Italy, on September 23-24, 2013. Call for papers now open.
Established in January 2013, the Italian Society for the Climate Sciences (SISC) was created to serve as a meeting point for scientists from different disciplines, who use climate information for their research: from climatologists to physicists and chemists, geographers to agronomists, economists to political scientists, and all scholars that deal with climate-related sciences and their applications.
The Italian Society for the Climate Sciences aims to encourage and foster scientific progress and innovation of climatic sciences in Italy by promoting the convergence of disciplines and multidisciplinary research.
“Climate research needs to integrate different scientific disciplines and to promote a constructive and trans-disciplinary dialogue between scientists, decision makers, operational service providers and general public,” says Antonio Navarra, the president of SISC. “Physicists, chemists, agronomists, supercomputing experts, economists, social scientists, policy makers, etc: they all need to speak a common language in dealing with climate change. Climate change research requires an interdisciplinary approach. Now, more than ever, we need to create and promote an interdisciplinary platform for discussion of climate systems and its interactions with environment and society; integration of knowledge across scientific fields is essential to go ahead with climate research and face the climate challenge.”
Therefore, the Italian Society for the Climate Sciences looks at the world of research to foster the exchange of ideas, the creativity and the development of new interdisciplinary research. The SISC aims also to encourage and attract young talents to build a new interdisciplinary scientific community and increase overall productivity, while stimulating and coordinating the Italian contributions to the International programs in the field of climate sciences.
The Italian Society for the Climate Sciences looks also at the society to increase the impact of the studies and of the debate on climate issues, giving scientific rigour to the analysis of climate policies for mitigation and adaptation; to promote the dialogue among scientists, policy makers, businesses and citizens and support actions in the interests of the society and the environment; to provide research results to institutions, businesses and citizens.
the Italian Society for the Climate Sciences has just been launched and its founding members are pleased to announce the First Annual SISC Conference.
The conference, entitled “Climate change and its implications on ecosystem services and society” will take place in Lecce, Italy, on September 22-23, 2013.
The conference aims to involve scientists, researchers, policy makers, Italians, and foreigners working in close contact with our country, whose activities closely affect aspects of climate change and their relationships on environmental and socio- economic systems.
