Earth Day 2013 – The Face of Climate Change

Posted on

Each year, Earth Day – April 22 – marks the anniversary of what many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
The passage of the landmark Clean Air Act, Clean Water ActEndangered Species Act and many other groundbreaking environmental laws soon followed. Growing out of the first Earth Day, Earth Day Network (EDN) over the last 40 years has realized successful environmental campaigns on issues ranging from climate change and drinking water to saving the whale.

“The Face of Climate Change” is the theme of the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day.
Climate change has already effects on people, animals, and the ecosystems and natural resources on which we all depend.
A man in the Maldives worried about relocating his family as sea levels rise, or a woman in Bangladesh who can’t get fresh water due to more frequent flooding and cyclones, but also the polar bear in the melting arctic or the orangutan in Indonesian forests segmented by more frequent bushfires and droughts, etc, are all faces of climate change.
Fortunately, other Faces of Climate Change are multiplying too: those stepping up to do something about it.

The different faces of climate change will be shown through the initiative “Become a Climate Reporter”: to depict the face of climate change, everyone is invited to upload a picture of himself/herself being impacted by climate change or taking action against it.
On April 22, these stories will be told and all the faces will be shown through images at thousands of Earth Day events around the world. Communities everywhere will speak up their concerns for the planet, and will renew their commitment to take action and address climate change.
