The Europe-China Clean Energy Centre (EC2) starts in Beijing: a hub of excellence for providing assistance to policy makers and supporting the Chinese Government’s efforts to shape a more sustainable, environment-friendly and efficient energy sector. The project, led by Politecnico di Torino and supported by the European Union and the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, will be inaugurated in the Sino Italian Ecological and Energy efficient Building (SIEEB), Tsinghua University on Friday 30th April, in the presence of President José Manuel Barroso
Chinese and European experts working together in a web of excellence for energy-related issues involving policy-makers, academic world, market stakeholders, R&D community and public at large. The Europe-China Clean Energy Centre (EC2), which is a project managed by a Consortium of Chinese and European partners (among them the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change), will provide support to both Chinese and European energy sector key players.
The centre will use a combination of research and technological analysis on clean
energy, identification and dissemination of technological needs, potential projects, best
practices and partnership opportunities. In doing so, EC2 will act as a clearing house for new clean technologies, by facilitating the interaction among research institutions and by promoting technological analysis, best practices and partnership opportunities. The available knowledge on state-of-the art and emerging technologies will be mapped and collected. Ec2 will also establish an innovative platform for capacity building for Chinese institutions in the field of energy policy and regulation and advise EU and Chinese decision-makers on how to develop and enforce policy-making, energy planning and reform. A special focus will be put on promoting and organising high level dissemination activities on clean energies projects and financing schemes.
Based in the Sino Italian Ecological and Energy efficient Building (SIEEB), Tsinghua University, the centre is be directed by Dr. Alessandro Costa and Prof. Shi Dan.
