The International Conference on Fire Behaviour and Risk – Focus on Wildland Urban Interfaces,  will take place in Alghero, Sardinia (Italy),  4th-6th October 2011.

The aim of the Conference is to present advancements in forest fire research, with special attention on the relationship between climate and fire, on fire modelling, and on fire risk at WUI level.

The event is organized within the framework of the Proterina-C Project (Italia-Francia Marittimo Program) by the Department of Economics and Woody Plant Ecosystems (DESA) from the University of Sassari and the Institute of Biometeorology from the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-IBIMET, Sassari) that are two partners of the Fume Project.

The sessions of the Conference will cover in details specific topics such as:

  • European Projects on Forest Fires (in this session, an overview of the Proterina-C Project and other european projects will be presented);
  • Modelling Fire Behaviour and Risk (this session will explore the modelling applications to assess fire behaviour and risk at local and broad scale; contributions on post fire management and vegetation recovery will be taken into account);
  • Climate and Fire (this session will be devoted to papers focusing on the relationships between climate and fire ignition, danger and behaviour; analysis of historical and future climate effects on fire will be also considered);
  • Fire Risk at WUI (the objective of this session will be to present the advances and the main methods to assess the characteristics of WUI, to estimate the fuel types and to model the potential fire behaviour and risk at WUI level).

Abstracts must be submitted via email to [email protected] in MS Word format by the 30th of June 2011
