India’s environment minister Prakash Javedekar said that India, along with 100 other nations,  will ratify the Paris Agreement in New York on April 22, 2016.
In a boost for the process, India is the latest to endorse the UN-backed accord at the 22 April event in New York. It follows recent declarations by the US, China, EU and a cluster of small island states.
The Paris Agreement will enter into force on the 30th day after the date on which at least 55 Parties to the Convention accounting in total for at least an estimated 55 % of total global greenhouse gas emissions have deposited their instruments of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession with the Depositary.

Saying that climate change was a reality with 1°C rise in temperature caused by 150 years of uncontrolled carbon emission by the developed countries, Javadekar said India was responsible for only three percent the global carbon emission.
“Though India is not part of the problem, it wants to be part of the solution. Our commitment is reflected in every programme being pursued by the government,” he said at the symposium entitled “COP 21 Building Synergies, Shaping Actions” in Mumbai (India), in a comment reported by The Economic Times .
“If the developed world followed India’s example and levied higher taxes on coal, billions of dollars would accrue to pursue clean energy programmes” he said.
