The Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change participated in the evaluation of the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System and Research by ranking at the top of its category for three disciplinary areas: earth sciences, agricultural and veterinary sciences, and economic sciences and statistics
ANVUR (Agenzia Nazionale di Valutazione del Sistema Universitario e della Ricerca) recently presented the report/evaluation on the quality of research in Italy (vQr) for the seven years 2004-2010. The report, the result of 20 months of work, provides a national ranking by scientific area and structure, offers an assessment of University departments and substructures of Research Institutions to government bodies, and allows a comparison of the quality of national research with that of major European and world countries.
The evaluation-which was carried out following criteria of relevance, originality, and degree of internationalization of nearly 185,000 products (including articles, monographs and essays, conference proceedings, artifacts, judgment notes, translations, software, databases, exhibitions and performances, and maps)-involved 133 structures in 14 scientific areas defined by the National University Council; in particular, 95 universities, 12 research bodies supervised by the Miur itself and 26 bodies that and research consortia that have joined the initiative are included in the report.
The latter includes CMCC – Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change – with results highlighting its leading role in the Italian research scene. The evaluation of CMCC turns out to be very positive in several disciplinary areas, such as earth sciences, agricultural and veterinary sciences, and economic and statistical sciences, areas in which the Center turns out to be at the top among the consortia that have voluntarily participated in the evaluation and obtains excellent results in absolute terms, even compared in the general group of centers involved in the ANVUR evaluation.
In particular, the index of quality of scientific research – that is, the average score per research area considered among the various university facilities, research institutions, and other consortia – shows that with a value of 0.88, CMCC is first in the area of Earth Sciences, third with 0.84 in the area of Agricultural Sciences and second with 0.75 in the area of Economics and Statistics.
This is an excellent result for a young research center like CMCC, which shows that it is developing top-notch multidisciplinary research activities and is a reason for exceptional satisfaction for all the staff and collaborators of the Center.
