Call for applications: Professional Master’s Programme in High-Performance and Quantum Computing (2026/2027)

CMCC is a partner of the Professional Master’s Programme in High-Performance and Quantum Computing (2026/2027) of the University of Bologna, a second-level programme that trains specialists in advanced computational methods. The Centre is among the official partners hosting students in the programme’s internship period, together with other public bodies and private companies.

The HPQC Master is a training course focused on high-performance, large-scale and quantum computing paradigms, methods and applications. It combines teaching courses, practical hands-on activities and internships at leading computing agencies and companies. The programme is designed to connect academic training and research with the business world, offering a professionalising pathway for young graduates in technical and scientific disciplines.

Context
Advances in computing and data-sharing technologies have changed how computational resources are used across society, from academic research to the applied work of public agencies and private companies. High-performance computing and scientific methods are now essential in strategic sectors such as climate and energy studies, the discovery of new pharmaceutical compounds and industrial materials, and the optimisation of industrial, logistics and financial processes.

Programme
The teaching plan covers the foundations of computational methods, parallel computing, machine learning techniques and quantum computing concepts, along with the practical skills needed to work with state-of-the-art large-scale computing infrastructures. The Master trains experts in:

  • modelling and numerical methods for complex systems;
  • high-performance and large-scale computation;
  • quantum methods and algorithms on different platforms.

Knowledge and skills
By the end of the programme, participants will have acquired:

  • a sound knowledge of scientific modelling and computational techniques, including quantum computing methods, for the study of complex systems;
  • proficiency in programming for high-performance computing, in the integration and use of large-scale computational infrastructures, and in the use of quantum computers based on different technologies;
  • practical skills to apply advanced high-performance computing techniques to the analysis and solution of complex problems;
  • additional professional skills, such as teamwork, developed mainly during the internship at partner institutions and companies.
