Jointly launched by JPI Climate and JPI Oceans in January 2025, the AMOC Assessment Initiative brings together the scientific community across Europe and Canada to evaluate the stability and trajectory of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), a central engine of Earth’s climate system. The AMOC Assessment Initiative is supported by the Horizon Europe-funded MAGICA project, coordinated by CMCC.
From 12 to 15 January 2026, CMCC will host the first AMOC Assessment Report Authors Meeting, which will consist of an initial writing workshop, at its premises in Lecce, bringing together more than 50 authors contributing to the various chapters of the assessment report, who will meet in person to harmonise chapter content and collectively advance the writing process.
The event is open to a list of selected international researchers.
