More information

A second writing workshop for the joint initiative ‘AMOC in Focus’ by JPI Climate and JPI Oceans to undertake a Scientific Assessment will be held in Brussels at the Royal Meteorological Institute situated in Uccle, from 29 June to 2 July 2026. Authors contributing to the assessment report will reconvene in person to further develop and refine draft chapters, building on progress made during the first writing workshop in Lecce (January 2026). The meeting will focus on advancing the coherence of the report, strengthening cross-chapter integration, and addressing key scientific questions.

This workshop represents a key step in the assessment process, enabling authors to consolidate emerging findings and move towards a more complete draft of the report.

Jointly launched by JPI Climate and JPI Oceans in January 2025, the AMOC Assessment Initiative brings together the scientific community across Europe and Canada to evaluate the stability and trajectory of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), a central engine of Earth’s climate system. The AMOC Assessment Initiative is supported by the Horizon Europe-funded MAGICA project, coordinated by CMCC.
