PROGRAMME

A conference for stakeholders from policy, local and regional administration, science, NGOs, business and industry to discuss main topics such as: coastal zone planning and management, natural solutions in the framework of green and blue infrastructure, possibilities for financing the climate change adaptation, adaptive measures that are contributing the climate change reduction

CREATE Project invites stakeholders from policy, local and regional administration, science, NGOs, business and industry to the Kick Off Conference “CREATE the future we need” to join us in discussion on:

  • coastal zone planning and management
  • natural solutions in the framework of green and blue infrastructure
  • possibilities for financing the climate change adaptation
  • adaptive measures that are contributing the climate change reduction

Moderator
Ivan Sekovski is a programme officer at PAP/RAC of UNEP/MAP. He has an MSc degree from University Department of Marine Studies in Split, Croatia, an MSc degree in Water and Coastal Management from University of Faro, Portugal, and a PhD in Marine and Coastal Management from University of Cadiz, Spain. During the PhD he focused on the topic of vulnerability of coastal ecosystems to impacts of storm surges and sea level rise in Ravenna area, Italy, and since then actively worked with PAP/RAC on projects related to climate change impacts on coastal zones (e.g. GEF MEDPartnership project, ClimVar&ICZM project, EU Interreg AdriAdapt project, GEF MEDProgramme etc.)

Speakers and panelists
Dr. Natalija Dunić Postdoctoral researcher, IOF. Dunić has an MSc in Physics from the University of Split, and a PhD in Geophysics from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. Her PhD research was conducted at the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Split (IOF), where she investigated the Adriatic Sea thermohaline circulation using several regional climate models. Currently, she is undertaking a Post-Doctoral programme at IOF, in which the main research is the assessment of different climate change scenarios impact on the Adriatic Sea thermohaline properties, the latter conditioning the life of marine habitats, in particular of those who have low tolerance levels for temperature and salinity changes.

Daria Povh Škugor is a Senior programme officer at PAP/RAC of UNEP/MAP, dealing with integrated coastal zone management for about 20 years and focussing on adaptation to climate change and coastal resilience for almost 15 years. She coordinated the implementation of UNEP/MAP, GEF and EU projects, in different Mediterranean countries, from the local, national to multi-country level. In her work, she is committed to creating an enabling environment for action towards sustainability and resilience.

ORGANIZED BY:

The event is organized by the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, Split in collaboration with Priority Actions Programme/Regional Activity Centre, Split, Split-Dalmatia County and Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar, Zagreb – project partners of the Interreg project CREATE.

Interreg project is a result of cooperation between leading Croatian and Italian institutions and organizations in the field of climate research and activities along the Adriatic coast. The particularity of the CREATE project is that it unites the results of existing and recently completed related projects with the aim to share the knowledge and experiences to various target groups: from regional and local authorities, development agencies, academic and business communities, non-governmental organizations, to the general public, in order to establish the appropriate measures to deal with current and expected climate changes in the Adriatic regions.

About the organizers
